The Season for Giving back
The
Season
for
Giving back
Together, we can create a brighter future for children and families impacted by learning disabilities.
This season of giving, your donation brings hope and the chance for these children to access resources that foster personal growth and confidence.
As the holidays approach, we invite you to consider a meaningful way to give back to our community by supporting children, youth, and families impacted by learning disabilities. At the Learning Disabilities Association of Wellington County (LDAWC), we’re dedicated to helping those with learning disabilities and ADHD reach their fullest potential—but we can’t do it alone.
As the holidays approach, we invite you to consider a meaningful way to give back to our community by supporting children, youth, and families impacted by learning disabilities.
- 35% of students with learning disabilities drop out of school.
- 1 in 10 people in Ontario are affected by learning disabilities, yet many lack the resources to reach their potential.
- The number of youth in Guelph-Wellington County who face significant struggles in school is greater than 4,500.
These numbers, though sobering, are pre-pandemic and likely even higher now due to the challenges children and families have faced over recent years. Your support can help change this reality.
One of the largest barriers to accessing the resources these children need is finances...
Which is why it is so important to keep our programming free of charge. We offer programs like Reading Rocks, Executive Skills, Social Skills, and SOAR that provide essential tools for academic success, self-regulation, and social connection. Below is a summary of those program offerings, the cost of keeping them going, and just some of the enormous impact (that we can put into numbers) they’ve had on the learning disabled community in Wellington County.

A Real Impact : Comments & Stories from program participants
“My son has had noticeable improvements since beginning his participation in this program. He still has a long way to go to be caught up with his peers and the expected reading level for his grade, but we’re on the right path. I am looking forward to registering him for the next session.”
“My daughter absolutely loved going to reading rocks this term. I think the 2:1 ratio was beneficial, she loved making a new friend. We felt that she was engaged and supported. Her reading has certainly improved this term, especially her confidence. Thank you so much for this opportunity!”
“This program is really great and I can’t believe the words they are reading now with more confidence.”
“Considering my child struggles immensely with his social skills, they have improved with this program. Thank you for having him and for a lovely teacher. He said that he enjoyed social skills class as it wasn’t noisey and a small group of kids.”
“So grateful for this program for a crucial time in our son’s learning to keep him on track and maintain his confidence in school.”
